HARRY POTTER FANISTAS -- What are you doing for book 7? Pre-ordering? Through where? HOW ARE YOU GETTING YOUR HANDS ON IT I MUST KNOW. I think with #6 I just went out and bought it. I got an email from amazon today though & that got me thinking. FREQUENT TRAVELLERS -- The last planeride I took was a 25-minute jaunt down to California. Do you have any recommendations for what to bring on a 14-hour planeride to Germany? I was thinking: my iPod, a book(s), or maybe a gun to shoot myself from sitting for FOURTEEN HOURS. But any other suggestions, pls! I was not planning on taking Steve McQueen, as dad may be letting me borrow his work video iPod, but if I can't, is it a good idea for movie-watchage? Do you have any suggestions for things I should pack (out of the ordinary pants/underwear/shirts/toothbrush) for the trip itself? It will be for 10 days in 3 countries (England, France, Italy), and I even get to take the train and sleep on a couchette (I don't need a sleeping bag, do I?). I don't travel a whole lot, so, things that are useful that I may overlook or things I shouldn't overlook but won't pack or etc etc. iPOD EXTRAORDINAIRES AND TECHNOLOGY SAVS -- As mentioned, I may be getting to use my dad's work video iPod. If this is the case: Is there a way I can burn DVDs I already have onto the iPod? Such as some Eddie Izzard or House or Steve McQueen? I've never had to load on videos before! I downloaded some, but I want to know if I can rip DVDs I already have on to le iPod. FINALLY: Any other travel suggestions or packing suggestions woud be much appreciated! The last time I'll be able to check for comments/etc will be Wednesday AM. ( AS A THANK YOUUUUUUUU FOR READING THIS (and it doesnt even involve Steve McQueen): )Tags: harry potter, jesus god that's a long entry, question, travel écouter à: CAN ANYBODY FIND ME SOMEBODY TO LOOOOOOOVE

One of the things we're talking about in my humanities class is this book, "The Heavenly City of 18th Century Philosophers," by Carl Becker. And his first lecture is about "Climates of Opinion," and what that means, or meant, according to certain philosophies and time periods and thought processes. "Climate of opinion" basically means our generational biases, thought processes taken for granted and accepted by society, if that makes sense. Like, the "climate of opinion" during the 13th century was faith-based. "This is how we do things because god said so." The Enlightenment's COP was based on fact and science and "this is how it is because we proved it," not taking into account faith or what science is or the past or anything. Generational biases, limitations on thought-processes, I guess. I wonder what our climate of opinion is, right now. And what are our social limitations, according to that? Like, take women's roles for example. Women weren't (socially) "allowed" to be things like doctors or lawyers back however many decades ago. But at the time, did women think of it that way, think, "I'd love to be a doctor, but it's not really allowed, so instead I'll be a telephone operator"? Or did becoming a doctor not even enter in their mind, because of the "climate of opinion" of the time? What I want to know is, what are our social limitations according to our "climate of opinion"? We're told we can be pretty much anything (middle class 21st century America). Like, I could be a doctor if I wanted, or I could be a stripper or I could be a physicist or astronaut or professional athlete or a housewife. There aren't many social limitations. Except I bet there are, but maybe we just don't think about them as limitations in that way, because it's sort of a ... a frontier we haven't reached yet. Does that make sense? Like, back in X decade, women maybe didn't think about not being a doctor as some social limitation to overcome, but rather, just sort of a fact of life and didn't really think much of it. Because that's how you thought back then. It's all about how you think, how you perceive the world. As much as we want to, you can't not view the world without some bias, you know? Some cultural bias. And I'm not necessarily talking about just women's rights or careers, I just mean, altogether. What are our social limitations, and how does our "climate of opinion" basically prevent us from seeing it? One of Becker's theories is that, although the climates of opinion change, the basic idea of the limitations are still the same. Always the same, because humanity never seems to learn from its mistakes. I want to see things in the bigger picture. I want to see them on a broader scale. I can't know what I don't acknowledge, but how am I supposed to know it, if it's just a fact of life that I take for granted? Tags: pretending to be philosophical je suis: my nose is stuffy

Cool new meme, created by ems: Go to Found Magazine, have a surf around and and post your favourite found item as a comment to this post (or in your own journal, whatever) (with the image attached to the URL like this: <ahref="url"><img src="imgurl"></a>), along with the reason why you like it. Then put this in your journal and post your favourite along with the instructions. I like this because it's cute, and because we have a fat dog, so it's funnier. Link courtesy czechpoint: This is a good article. (In which the admissions officer at MIT writes about Early Action decisions/college&etc.) It's actually sickening to me now because as I stand off and observe as a mother, I see how often the message we adults send to young people is that they are not good enough as they are, that if only they were more involved, took more AP courses, cured cancer already, they would make a better applicant. I really feel that my generation has failed you by failing to act like adults, by failing to just tell the truth about what we do and why, by expecting you at your age to be what we still can't be at ours - perfect.Um, so, right. Government notes, English journal response, government vocab, and... yes. I still love Tommy Brawley. Onward! Tags: college, links, to do je suis: no comment

As I said earlier, I read The Solitaire Mystery (Jostein Gaarder). It was such a great book, I just couldn't resist, so here are two quotes from it. It's a lot like Sophie's World, but it focused more on philosophy of destiny, which I thought was a really interesting take, seeing as I don't know how I feel about that whole destiny-thing. The quotes are long, but if you're only going to read one, definitely read the second. I'll try to find others, but these were the two I had specifically bookmarked. I highly recommend it; it's a fast read, and it's really fanciful. But the way it talks about how everything in the world is intended, it really makes you go, "Wow. I am a living person on this planet, sitting here right now, experiencing the world." And it's pretty cool. Also because the boy in the story finds a book in a sticky bun, and I had a sticky bun the morning after I finished the book, so it was extra special. (1) ( 'has it ever occured to you that you are a Martian yourself?' )(2) ( 'i appreicate how fantastically lucky i am to be able to experience this planet.' )Tags: quotes, reading is for cool people je suis: thirsty

I'll make more maybe on Monday. Tomorrow after the barn I'm going to try with every ounce of me not to faff too much so I can work on my project. :P I wanted to make more tonight, but it's already midnight and I'm tired. So.
Leigh: If you wanted any other Idina icons, or you like some of these but want they sort of, adjusted (text-wise I didn't know what to put, so I just left them blank), just let me know. :)) I thought I made more than just 12, but. Oh well. I'd be happy to make more with different pics or different styles si tu veux. :)
Hope you guys like them. <3je suis: sleepy

Okay, I have a question. I want to put a Javascript effect like this on one of my pages over @ Oh-D. However, you will note that the script requires an insert into the body and head tags. The problem I'm facing is that the page I want to insert this on is a .php page, and so I don't have the usual <HTML> <HEAD> and <BODY> tags on the pages, just the <?php @include('/home/oh-darl/public_html/top.txt'); ?> php codes on the top and bottom of the page, so this way I *don't* have the entire HTML code on the page. So how would I put this code on here? What I want is basically to have a link, click on it, and then a small list of sub-links to pop up below it. Like the links here (except without the folder/etc icons). Help! <3 je suis: confused écouter à: some beach blake shelton
